Falcon Ridge Men's League – August 24th Newsletter Week #14

Howdy Golfers,

Monday’s WINNERS were:

50/50 Draw Winner – Ken Warner - $35 (your funds are at the clubhouse)

Closest to the Pin – Falcon Ridge – Carlo D’Angelo

Long Drive - Falcon Ridge – Mack J

Closest to the Pin – Raceview – Francois Belanger

Long Drive – Raceview – Ian Christie

We request that the last group pick up the closest to the pin and the longest drive markers and bring them to the clubhouse each week.  Thank you for doing so!

The clubhouse is currently holding quite a few $20 vouchers for this seasons winners.  Please check at the clubhouse to pick up your winnings.  If you had your name on a long drive or closest to the pin marker this year, you may have won and not realized your good fortune.

In the News:

Thanks to those who participated in this years Demo Day.  It was great to try out clubs from Adams Golf, Taylor Made Golf and Nike Golf on our driving range.

Our tournament is on Saturday Sept 19 and you can prebook your preferred t-time.  We are starting at 10:30 am and expect to have approximately 16 groups out this year.  T-offs are every 10 minutes from 10:30 to 1:00 pm.  Just let us know your preferred t-time.

Thank you to the A team players who participated in the 2010 Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids Annual Fundraiser, which was held on #9 on Falcon Ridge tonight.  We raised $255 for this great charity.  All B team players will get a chance to participate next week.  For $5, if you land on the green you get a sleeve of balls, plus you can register online with your ticket stub at www.golfgives.ca to enter the Grand Prize Draw for a trip for 2 to the 2010 Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive including airfare, accommodations and all related activities)

Thank you to Steve Meabry for giving out various door prizes tonight.  Steve is offering an opportunity to attend Lynn Crete’s Caribbean Golf Classic from December 4 – 11, 2009  in Varadero Cuba.  For more information, please contact Steve at smeabry@golfesape.ca or at 526-2377 or 291-1696.

Group lessons have ended until further notice.  We will advise if and when they resume.  Thanks to all who participated this year and thank you to Colin and Dave for providing their amazing guidance.

Our remaining dates are Aug 31 and Sept 14 plus our tournament and banquet on Saturday Sept 19.

The following teams will be playing on the following courses for the remainder of the season.

Aug 31

A teams play on Raceview

B teams play on Falcon Ridge

Sept 14

A teams play on Falcon Ridge

B teams play on Raceview

The above schedule will prevail even if there are rainouts.

The $12 meal fee that you pay does not include gratuities to your server.

We have adopted a club length policy for league play.  If your ball lands in winterkill within the fairway, you can drop it within one club length, no closer to the hole.  If you are on the green and there is winterkill between your ball and the hole, it's permissible to drop it within one club length, no closer to the hole.  If your ball lands in the rough, it must stay in the rough.  If your ball lands in a sand trap and is unplayable, you can drop it within one club length no closer to the hole.  We expect the course conditions to improve over time so these rules are likely to be temporary in nature.

Second half league dues are payable as of July 6th.  Please pay Stephanie or Sarah your second half dues if you have not already paid in advance.  The fee structure follows below in this newsletter.

The proceeds of the weekly 50/50 draw are used to buy prizes for our annual banquet at the end of the season.  We encourage everyone to participate!  The cost of the 50/50 draw is only $2 for 1 ticket or 3 tickets for $5.  You can buy your tickets when you check in, prior to golfing, or at the bar during supper.  Make sure you get in on the action!

Please advise Stephanie by email at falconridge.leagues@gmail.com if you will not be able to make it for dinner this week or if you want to use your one meal credit.

The club is giving out a $20.00 gift certificate to the restaurant, for winners of the long drive and closest to the pin winners.  The certificates are valid until the end of the year. They can be used towards anything in the restaurant except alcohol and they can only be used once, so you have to spend the $20.00 or as much of it as you can at one time.

Please continue to hand in your scorecard each week with your team score at the bar after your game.  Please ensure the names of your foursome and your t-time are clearly recorded.  Please record your team score on a separate line so that our statistician can easily record your results.

For the weekly long drive and closest to the pin competitions, it is now permitted to use the Red tees.  This will help with the pace of play and keep it fair for everyone.  You can win each award once per season.

Food for thought – If everyone fixed one pitch mark on each green in addition to their own, we would repair 540 pitch marks each week.  Let’s make it happen.  Divot tools are available free at the clubhouse.  Respect your golf course!!

Please let us know if you know of anyone who would like to join our league or be added to the spares list.

Please talk to Stephanie to receive your prize. To win the closest to the pin contest, your ball has to end up on the green. To win the longest drive contest, your ball has to end up on the fairwayYou are allowed to win the long drive and closest to the pin only once each per year during league play.  You can use the forward tees for this competition if you prefer.

Rain Outs:

If it’s raining, we would like to start a new tradition of having dinner at the club anyway even if the golf has been halted due to the weather.  It’s a night out and you don’t have to cook.  Come on out and mingle with your fellow golfers.  It’s a social league and that’s a perfect time to get to meet your peers.  There is usually a ball game on the big screen to watch as well.

Group Lessons:

Group Lessons have ended for the season.

Annual Tournament:

Our annual tournament and closing banquet date will be held on Saturday, September 19 starting at 10:30 am on Falconridge.  Please mark that date on your calendar.

Housekeeping:

1) All players must sign in at the Pro Shop before Teeing Off.

2) If you are not going to be staying for supper on a given Monday, please contact the club at (613) 822-6742 or by email at falconridge.leagues@gmail.com by noon each Monday.   You will be given credit for a maximum of one dinner per season if you can’t make it.

3) Please try to arrive at the club in advance of your scheduled t-time and be prepared to start earlier if other groups are running late.

Teams:

We have simplified the team concept and scoring for this year.  Each foursome will be part of the same team and two foursomes will form each team.  The best scores on each hole for your foursome will be added together to get your team scores.

Your team standings will be posted each week in the clubhouse on the bulletin board.  Please ensure you hand in your scorecards at the bar each week and write down the first and last name of each player so that we can read them.   The foursome pairings will be announced after the first 4 weeks to allow handicapping of the scores.

League Perks:

As a league member, you are entitled to a large bucket of range balls each week.  If you don't have time to warm up before your game, ask for a free bucket of balls coupon when you check in and come back another time to practice. Golf carts on league nights are $12 per cart. We’ll also receive a 20% discount on all pro shop items (except clubs) on Monday nights. So why not wait to make your golf purchases at the club on Monday nights and help our club grow. And of course it's a perk to be served by Stephanie and the Ladies of Raceview!

Golf Etiquette:

Please make an extra effort to fix your pitch marks on the greens. It’s a good practice to fix your ball mark and one more.  Please leave the course in better shape than when you started.  Ball mark repair tools are available free of charge at the club house if you need one.  Please waive faster groups through to keep things moving, especially if you have a clear hole in front of you. Remember that Range Balls are only to be used on the driving range.  Keep all carts away from greens, tees and bunkers.

League Rules: (to speed up play)

The penalty for “Out of Bounds” or a "Lost Ball" during league play is 1 stroke only, not stroke and distance.  Just drop a ball within 2 club lengths of where your ball last crossed into the hazard and play away.  There is no need to play a provisional ball.  The maximum score on a hole is double par. If you reach that number, please pick up your ball.  Remember for team scoring purposes, the lowest score on the hole in your foursome is what counts.  If the group behind you is waiting for you please waive them through or speed up your play.  Please limit the time looking for lost golf balls to a maximum of 1 minute.

Spare Policy:

If you can't golf on a given Monday, please arrange for a spare to come out. Your spare will pay you directly because you have already prepaid for your round and for dinner. Please advise your spare to check in at the pro shop before teeing off.  If your spare can’t stay for supper, please advise the club at 822-6742 by Monday at noon so they can budget the proper amount of food for the night.  Spares scores will count for team scoring purposes this year.

Please patronize our Sponsors:

Please take note of our sponsors listed below and please call them if you need any of their services. If you would like to sponsor a night for the “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” competition, please contact Stephanie or one of your executive.
