Falcon Ridge Men's League – May 11 Newsletter

Howdy Golfers,

It was great to see so many of you out on Monday for our first golf night of the season!  The weather was excellent and so was the golfing!  We will forward the team results once Bernie finishes inputting them!

Monday’s WINNERS were:

50/50 Draw – David Brisson - $36.50

Mike Zagaria – Closest to the Pin – Falcon Ridge

Mike Quinn – Long Drive - Raceview

Ian Charter – Closest to the Pin - Raceview

Ray Cardinal – Long Drive -  Falcon Ridge

In the News:

Our next golf night is Monday May 25th.  We will not be golfing on May 18 due to the Victoria Day Long Weekend.

Colin Orr has announced that our group lessons will begin on Thursday May 28th at 6:30 pm on the range.  The cost is only $10 per week and you pay each week that you attend.  Everyone is welcome and please bring a friend.  Please confirm by email if you plan on attending this year.

For the weekly long drive and closest to the pin competitions, it is now permitted to use the Red tees.  This will help with the pace of play and keep it fair for everyone.

We have simplified the team concept and scoring for this year.  Each foursome will be part of the same team and two foursomes will form each team.  The best scores on each hole for your foursome will be added together to get your team scores.  Please hand in your scorecard each week with your team score.  It is a good idea to record your team scores on a separate line so that our statistician can easily record your team score.

The following points are repeated from our previous newsletter, including the spares list.

Please advise if you would like to be added to our spares list.

Please advise if you know of anyone that would like to join our league as a regular member or a spare.

If you have any suggestions or comments for the league, please email any of your executive, Stephanie Ramsay or Steve Spratt.

Thank you for your commitment to the league and have an excellent long weekend!

50/50 Draw:

We will continue with our weekly 50/50 draws. The cost is only $2 for 1 ticket or 3 tickets for $5 to get in on the action. You can buy your tickets at the bar before your game or during supper. The proceeds will be used towards our annual banquet and tournament costs.

Weekly “Long Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” Contest:

Our weekly long drive and closest to the pin contests will be held on the same holes each week on both Raceview and Falcon Ridge.  The closest to the pin holes will be on Raceview #8 and on Falcon Ridge #9.  The long drive holes will be on Raceview #6 and on Falcon Ridge #8.  Falcon Ridge will be sponsoring this event again this year.

Please talk to Stephanie to receive your prize. To win the closest to the pin contest, your ball has to end up on the green. To win the longest drive contest, your ball has to end up on the fairwayYou are allowed to win the long drive and closest to the pin only once each per year during league play.  You can use the forward tees for this competition if you prefer.

Rain Outs:

If it’s raining, we would like to start a new tradition of having dinner at the club anyway even if the golf has been halted due to the weather.  It’s a night out and you don’t have to cook.  Come on out and mingle with your fellow golfers.  It’s a social league and that’s a perfect time to get to meet your peers.  There is usually a ball game on the big screen to watch as well.

Group Lessons:

Group Lessons will resume on May 28th.  The cost is $10.  Come on out and bring a friend.

Annual Tournament:

Our annual tournament and closing banquet date will be held on Saturday, September 19 starting at 11:30 am on Falconridge.  Please mark that date on your calendar.

Housekeeping:

1) All players must sign in at the Pro Shop before Teeing Off.

2) If you are not going to be staying for supper on a given Monday, please contact the club at (613) 822-6742 or by email at falconridge.leagues@gmail.com by noon each Monday.   You will be given credit for a maximum of one dinner per season if you can’t make it.

3) Please try to arrive at the club in advance of your scheduled t-time and be prepared to start earlier if other groups are running late.

Teams:

We have simplified the team concept and scoring for this year.  Each foursome will be part of the same team and two foursomes will form each team.  The best scores on each hole for your foursome will be added together to get your team scores.

Your team standings will be posted each week in the clubhouse on the bulletin board.  Please ensure you hand in your scorecards at the bar each week and write down the first and last name of each player so that we can read them.   The foursome pairings will be announced after the first 4 weeks to allow handicapping of the scores.

League Perks:

As a league member, you are entitled to a large bucket of range balls each week.  If you don't have time to warm up before your game, ask for a free bucket of balls coupon when you check in and come back another time to practice. Golf carts on league nights are $12 per cart. We’ll also receive a 20% discount on all pro shop items (except clubs) on Monday nights. So why not wait to make your golf purchases at the club on Monday nights and help our club grow. And of course it's a perk to be served by Stephanie and the Ladies of Raceview!

Golf Etiquette:

Please make an extra effort to fix your pitch marks on the greens. It’s a good practice to fix your ball mark and one more.  Please leave the course in better shape than when you started.  Ball mark repair tools are available free of charge at the club house if you need one.  Please waive faster groups through to keep things moving, especially if you have a clear hole in front of you. Remember that Range Balls are only to be used on the driving range.  Keep all carts away from greens, tees and bunkers.

League Rules: (to speed up play)

The penalty for “Out of Bounds” or a "Lost Ball" during league play is 1 stroke only, not stroke and distance.  Just drop a ball within 2 club lengths of where your ball last crossed into the hazard and play away.  There is no need to play a provisional ball.  The maximum score on a hole is double par. If you reach that number, please pick up your ball.  Remember for team scoring purposes, the lowest score on the hole in your foursome is what counts.  If the group behind you is waiting for you please waive them through or speed up your play.  Please limit the time looking for lost golf balls to a maximum of 1 minute.

Spare Policy:

If you can't golf on a given Monday, please arrange for a spare to come out. Your spare will pay you directly because you have already prepaid for your round and for dinner. Please advise your spare to check in at the pro shop before teeing off.  If your spare can’t stay for supper, please advise the club at 822-6742 by Monday at noon so they can budget the proper amount of food for the night.  Spares scores will count for team scoring purposes this year.

1) All players must sign in at the Pro Shop before Teeing Off.

2) If you are staying for supper, please pay for your $10 meal ticket at the same time as you sign in.

3) If you are not going to be staying for supper on a given Monday, please contact the club at (613) 822-6742 or by email at falconridge.leagues@gmail.com by noon each Monday.

4) It’s assumed that you will be staying for supper if you didn’t phone or email the club by noon on Monday to state otherwise.

5) Suggestions are always welcome!

6) Please try to arrive at the club in advance of your scheduled T Time and be prepared to go off earlier if other groups are running late.

Team Standings:

We are in the process of making this years teams.  Your team standings will be posted each week in the clubhouse on the bulletin board beside the TV. Please ensure you hand in your scorecards at the bar each week and write down the first and last name of each player so that Joey can read it. The scoring system we are using is 1 point for a bogey, 2 points for a par, 3 points for a birdie and 4 points for an eagle.

League Dues: Please pay Stephanie if you have not already done so.  The first and second instalments are $184 each. ($144 green fees plus $40 league fee)

League Perks: Don't forget that as a league member, you are entitled to a large bucket of range balls each Monday.

Golf Etiquette: Please make an extra effort to fix your pitch marks on the greens. It’s a good practice to fix your ball mark and at least one more, even if it wasn’t yours.

Just drop a ball within 2 club lengths of where your ball last crossed the fairway and play away. The maximum score on a hole is double par. If you reach that number, please pick up your ball. Remember for team scoring purposes, you don’t get any points for scores over bogey, so you can pick up your ball and mark a double bogey, especially if you can see that other groups are waiting for you to play.  Limit time looking for lost golf balls to 1 minute maximum.

1)     We don’t play provisional balls in league play. If you believe your shot is lost or in the water, don’t play a provisional. Just proceed to where you believe your ball went and play from there. There is just a 1 stroke penalty and you get to keep your distance.

2)     The maximum score on a hole is double par. If you reach that number, please pick up your ball. Remember for team scoring purposes, you don’t get any points for scores over bogey, so you can pick up your ball and mark a double bogey, especially if you can see that other groups are waiting for you to play.

3)     Limit time looking for lost golf balls to 1 minute maximum.

4)     If you can’t see the group in front of you, or if the group behind you is waiting for you on every hole, that is a good indication that you should pick up the pace.

5)     Play from the forward (red) tees to speed things up if you average 6 or fewer points per game.

6)     It shouldn’t take more than 2 hours to play 9 holes.

Spare Policy: If you can't golf on a given Monday, please arrange for a spare to come out. Your spare will pay you directly because you have already prepaid for the round. Please advise your spare to check in at the pro shop to pay for their dinner before teeing off. If they can't make dinner, the clubhouse should be advised (at 822-6742) by Monday at noon so they can budget the proper amount of food for the night. If you know of anyone who would like to be added to the spares list or play regularly please let us know.
